okay, a pointed object can pierce more easly because it concentrates all the force into one point and the shape also helps to open path, it displaces the material (flesh) to the sides instead of bulking everything into one place and blocking it
For ANYTHING to be pierced in such a way by, not only a very blunt object like that flagpole, but on top of that a SPHERE.....that most likely breaked many bones and could have punctured like a hole puncher on a leather piece

The doves (cof cof, seagulls) naturally go to him, he's truly an angles (of course is not the smell of rotten carcasses all over him)
